Automotive Ecology Laboratory

The Laboratory conducts research on ecological indicators of internal combustion engines of motor vehicles. The bench measurements are performed on a chassis dynamometer built in a climatic chamber, which enables the measurements of carbon dioxide CO2, carbon monoxide CO, HC hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides NOx under driving test conditions and at various ambient temperatures ranging from -20 ° C to + 30 ° C . There are also tests of systems and components related to the treatment of engine exhaust gases, which include catalytic converters, particulate filters and sensors recording exhaust parameters. In addition, the laboratory conducts research in the field of analysis of the spread of gaseous pollutants in the atmosphere and dust fall, taking into account the number and type of emitters, terrain, wind direction, air balance, etc. Measurements of actual emissions from sources located in the field (motor vehicles in traffic, working machines, combustion units) are carried out using the HORIBA OBS 2200 mobile exhaust gas analysis system in terms of CO, CO2, HC, NOx emissions.

Specification of the main research equipment in the laboratory:

  • AVL-Zollner roller dynamometric stand with a power of 150kW; possible implementation of driving tests according to NEDC, FTP, Japan procedures, including start-up tests at low ambient temperatures down to -20 ° C,
  • a system for measuring vehicle motion parameters in road conditions with an optoelectronic sensor DATRON DLS-2,
  • AVL CVS i60 exhaust gas sampling and dilution system,
  • AVL AMA i60 exhaust gas analysis system in terms of emissions: CO, CO2, CH4, HC, NOx,
  • AVL iGEM test and measurement automation system,
  • mobile exhaust gas analysis system HORIBA OBS 2200 in terms of emissions: CO, CO2, HC, NOx,
  • software - OPERAT FB package for Windows (professional version).
